the wine barrel stave signs hand crafted
in our shop in Yreka, CA are made from reclaimed used barrels that aged red
wine. The barrels used for aging wine are made from white oak,
either French or American. I prefer to work with American oak
barrel wood.

The barrels we
now have in stock were acquired from wineries in northern CA, mostly in
the Napa, Sonoma and Clear Lake regions.
Taking Apart Barrels
After the barrels
are taken apart, staves are stacked, awaiting their turn to be
graded and transformed into a sign or other piece of fine decor.

When barrels are
in use for aging wine, the wine bleeds into the wood leaving an
attractive wine stain. How far depends on how long the wine was
left in the barrels.
